In more than three years working for The Daily Orange, I have accumulated more than 300 bylines and have covered the most pressing topics relating to the university. I spent the 2016 summer in Richmond reporting for the Richmond Times-Dispatch and wrote more than 60 stories. I don't believe in the phrase "student journalism" and my work reflects that.

Henrico D-Day veteran honored with special salute

Date: June 9, 2016
Publication: Richmond Times-Dispatch
What: A D-Day veteran was honored through a program that gives honor salutes in the homes of elderly veterans.

My role: I tried to gather as much detail as possible and spent about three hours with the family. This story, I feel, very much symbolizes my summer at The Times-Dispatch: I had the opportunity to cover a "normal" story and reported it with enthusiasm and drive.

Parking lot parties roll on at Castle Court despite 'ban'

My role: I was an assistant news editor when the ban was announced and followed this story for two years, leading to this scoop and bigger narrative on the policy as a whole.
Placement: This story ran as part of a series in The Daily Orange investigating alcohol culture at SU.

Publication: The Daily Orange
What: Karam Jamal Al Hamad was wanted by the Syrian government, a refugee who fled the war-torn country after speaking out against the Assad regime. He ended up at SU, hoping to return to his home state and improve relations.
My role: I found this story while searching through Google Alerts and

My role: I pitched the idea to the city government reporter and my editor and talked to about 15 Richmond officials about the need for a more formal system for affordable housing as the city acquires more properties.
