Who I am:  I’m a journalist who hails from Philadelphia, New York, and now the education reporter at the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Now:  I live in Richmond, Virginia, covering K-12 schools and higher education.

Past:   I was a dual major (newspaper and online journalism and political science) with two minors (sport management and history) at Syracuse University while serving as the editor in chief of The Daily Orange, the independent student newspaper. As editor in chief of the paper, I was the executive editor and chief executive officer. I also served as the president of the Board of Directors, overseeing the paper's adoption of a 10-year strategic plan.

After graduating from SU, I spent 10 weeks covering healthcare as an intern at Bloomberg News in New York City. I previously interned at The Times-Dispatch; WWNY TV 7, a CBS/FOX affiliate; the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, overseeing all aspects of league communications; and the Watertown Rams, a summer collegiate baseball team.

Before becoming editor in chief of The Daily Orange, I was managing editor, news editor and an assistant news editor for two semesters. I believe in getting out in the communities you write about and the paper has taken extra steps to become more city-oriented in my tenure.

I’ve presented research at the Society of American Baseball Research Analytics Conference and had research featured at the MIT Sloan Analytics Conference and in ESPN The Magazine. A study on pace of play and its effects on attendance demand was published in the Academy of Economics and Finance Journal.

Awards:  I was named the top undergraduate student studying journalism in Central New York in 2015. That October, I was featured as a “Scholar Spotlight” by Syracuse University. In May 2017 I was named the top senior editor at Syracuse University and was awarded the Bob Heisler Award for Excellence, which is given to a journalism major who exhibits excellence in reporting and editing.

Otherwise:  I spend my limited free time as a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and eating Mexican food. I love lists and once found a fact error in the original 1969 Baseball Encyclopedia. I’ve had a hot dog at every MLB stadium and started a newspaper for the wiffleball league I created when I was 11 years old.
